MID CENTURY MODERN RANCH REMODEL
Project Type: Full house renovation
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Details: A well-maintained Midcentury ranch needed a facelift that looked back in time. We aimed to reference themes and principles of midcentury and Danish modern design, preserving what was left original to the house, without building a time capsule. The floor plan was rearranged to work better with family life. Lighting was updated to brighten the house and highlight the exposed underside of the roof structure by using cable lighting and strategic use of oak wood plywood panels. The fireplace was shifted to balance the public rooms and bring a more modernist feel to the space. A home office with glass wall was created out of a den, which had originally been two bedrooms. A master suite was created by annexing a bedroom. The result is a modernist interpretation to a 1959 house longing for a little more personality.
